Summer Camp Scholarship
The Marcus Marquis Payne Summer Camp Scholarship is ONLY valid for those required to pay for The J. Ashburn Jr. Youth Center's Summer Program and must agree to the terms below:

I am agreeing to attend the 2024 Summer of Success Camp held at the Boys & Girls Club - J. Ashburn Jr. Clubhouse 85 Clarendon Ave. Columbus, Ohio 43223.

I agree to attend this program an average of four days a week on time.

I agree that I should lose my scholarship if my behavior is consistently or extremely inappropriate. This will be at the discretion of the Program Director and/or Lead Teacher.

I understand that my if I fail to comply with the entirety of this agreement, I will lose my scholarship and will be responsible for reimbursing the full amount of the camp back to What Would Marcus Do.

I understand that this scholarship will be a reimbursement paid out only after completion of the J. Ashburn Jr. Youth Center's Summer program with attendance and behavior verification by program staff.

I understand that tuition for J. Ashburn Jr. Youth Center's Summer program must be paid In full to J. Ashburn first then reimbursement will be paid out up to 30 days after the last day of the program.
College Scholarship
Scholarship Guidelines

Scholarship applications must be submitted during the student’s senior year at West High School. Students may complete our scholarship forms online.

Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or a legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or passport.

Applicant must be a resident of the Greater Hilltop Area or zip code 43222, 43223 or 43204. Applicants are considered a resident of one of these zip codes if they currently live within that area or have lived within in the zip code for at least one year at any time within the last five years.

Applicant must be a current student at West High School with a 3.0 or higher GPA

Applicant must be pursing studies at a Columbus State Community College or The Ohio State University majoring in Business Administration or Marketing.

Two letters of reference must be signed and added to the application.

Short Essay—Please explain the importance of giving back to the Hilltop Community in your academic studies and how you plan to incorporate a practical application for use in your future career must be 911 words.

Optional Video— If you would like to add your voice to your application, you have the option to submit a video presentation showcasing your work and qualifications for the WWMD scholarship. Video must be in English and a maximum of 2 minutes long. Please address these two questions: What is your passion and how are you currently pursuing it? How do you plan to use your passion to create a positive change in the Hilltop community?

All decisions by the review committee are final, and any attempts by applicants to lobby or persuade the committee during the process will result in immediate disqualification.
Scholarship Payment

Scholarship Award Letter will be sent to student.

The scholarship payment will be made directly to Columbus State Community College or The Ohio State University on behalf of student.

For the year of 2024 only, if applicant is enrolled at Columbus State Community College and receiving the standard scholarship through Columbus City Schools then the Marcus Marquis Payne Scholarship can be used to cover books needed courses. Payment for books will be made directly to Columbus State Community College.

The Marcus Marquis Payne Scholarship Application

Written proof of student’s enrollment in the program for which a scholarship is sought. Proof of enrollment must be sent directly to What Would Marcus Do from the college or university at which the applicant plans to use the scholarship, and generally takes the form of a letter from the registrar’s office. Instructions for submission of proof of enrollment will be provided to successful applicants. If documentation is not submitted before the deadline, the scholarship offer will be withdrawn
