Welcome From our CEO
If you’ve found your way to this site, chances are you care deeply about the heartbeat of our neighborhood. Whether you are seeking a helping hand, looking for a way to give back, or simply trying to find a sense of direction, I want you to know one thing: You belong here.
What Would Marcus Do (WWMD) was born from a simple but powerful legacy of compassion, action, and local pride. Marcus wasn’t just his name; he represented the spirit of looking out for your neighbor and showing up when it matters most. On the Hilltop, we face unique challenges, but we also possess an unmatched resilience. Our mission encompasses bridging the gap between "needing help" and "finding hope." We provide resources—from mentorship and educational support to basic necessities—designed to empower every resident to thrive right here in the community we call home.
Our Commitment to you:
-
Accessibility: No red tape, just real help.
-
Dignity: We treat every individual with the respect they deserve.
-
Action: We don't just talk about change; we roll up our sleeves and work for it.
We believe that the Hilltop’s greatest asset isn’t its buildings or its geography—it’s its people. By asking ourselves "What Would Marcus Do?", we are reminded to lead with kindness, act with courage, and never leave a neighbor behind.
I invite you to explore our resources, join our programs, or volunteer your time. Together, we are building a stronger, more vibrant Hilltop.
With gratitude and purpose,
President & CEO
Mark E. Payne, Jr.

WHO WE ARE
What Would Marcus Do is a movement dedicated to empowering the youth through education and opportunity. We believe in providing free and accessible resources to all, ensuring that every person has the chance to thrive and succeed. Our initiatives are designed to break down barriers and create a pathway for a brighter future.
WHO IS MARCUS?
He was always polite and respectful. Marcus’ philosophy was if
something needed to be done . . . to just do it. Marcus was always figuring things out for himself, before asking for help. He would say . . .“I’M A MAN NOW; I GOT THIS!” Marcus was a person who enjoyed life and saw the light in every situation. Marcus showed respect to his elders and love to the innocence of children. He didn’t mummer when he had an objective to complete and could lighten a dampened mood. Marcus liked thinking outside the box to solve problems.
